What is ECta?

ECtA (Empower Change Through Accountability) is a method designed to strengthen motivation, resilience, and sustainable growth—especially for self-led creative entrepreneurs who often juggle every part of their business alone. Through structured online reflection sessions in small peer groups, combined with practical tools, guides, and workshops, ECtA provides the support, structure, and community that many solopreneurs miss.

Why does ECtA work?

Because real change thrives where autonomy, competence, and relatedness (Self-Determination Theory) are nurtured, where a sense of coherence (KASAM: comprehensibility, manageability, meaningfulness) is reinforced, and where the balance between demand, control, and support is actively created.

What we offer

ECtA is designed to fit into busy creative lives and includes:

  • Peer sessions – short, structured Zoom meetings in small groups where you set goals, reflect, and follow through.
  • Workshops – interactive experiences on themes like clarity, focus, and creative energy.
  • Practical tools & guides – simple frameworks and exercises that make change tangible.
  • Podcast: Stora drömmar och små saker – exploring the same themes of creativity, accountability, and growth, and becoming an extra friend in the air.

How it works

You set your own goals, choose your themes, and commit to realistic steps forward. Along the way, you gain insight into your strengths and strategies, while learning from peers and applying practical tools.

ECtA is:

  • Simple & time-efficient – short sessions, lasting results.
  • Adaptable & reusable – designed to grow with you.
  • Accessible & inclusive – no prior coaching experience needed.
  • Community-driven – accountability, support, and inspiration from peers.
  • ECtA turns good intentions into action, making change both doable and joyful—creating lasting impact for those who thrive on creativity, independence, and connection.

How ECtA was born

The idea for ECtA was sparked after Karina and Maria had met regularly for over a year as accountability partners. What began as simple weekly check-ins quickly evolved into a powerful practice—fueling clarity, momentum, and long-term change.

“This could help so many more than just us,” Maria said one day. And from that moment, the seed for ECtA was planted.

With over 30 years of friendship since their Berklee College of Music days in Boston, Karina and Maria combined their shared experience in coaching, mental training, mindfulness, and solopreneurship. The result? A simple, sustainable method designed to support creative minds and independent professionals—just like them.

They’ve learned by doing. During their own ECtA practice, Maria finished her first book. Karina works on a musical and released several songs and albums. They are firm believers in “starting scrappy”—the idea that big dreams begin with small steps. One step at a time.

In their podcast, podcasten Big Dreams & Little Things, you can meet them where they are: in the messy middle of real solopreneur life, discussing the joys and challenges that come with building something of your own. From two very different corners of Europe—Karina on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, and Maria by the Atlantic coast just south of Lisbon—they bring their unique voices to a global audience.

Though both are Swedish, they feel deeply connected to the world, having lived and worked across the U.S., the U.K., and Sweden. Why limit yourself, right?

Also—yes, they’re both mothers. Which means ECtA was built not in a boardroom, but between school pickups, family dinners, and real life. Just like it’s meant to be.

Why Accountability partners get you there faster

Accountability partners accelerate goal achievement by creating external motivation. When you share your goals with someone, you establish regular check-ins that prevent procrastination and maintain focus. The knowledge that someone expects progress creates positive pressure to follow through. Partners also provide valuable perspective during challenges and celebrate your wins, creating momentum. This shared commitment transforms solitary struggles into collaborative journeys, helping you reach your goals more quickly than working alone.
